Felix Manz, a leader of the Anabaptist movement, is being executed by drowning in the Limmat River for his religious beliefs, defying the Zurich authorities' decree against adult baptism.

Setting

The Limmat River in Zurich, near the Rathaus (town hall), with a wooden platform extending over the icy waters. The riverbanks are lined with snow-covered cobblestones and bare trees, their branches stark against the winter sky.

A thin, pale man in his early 30s with a short dark beard and sunken eyes from months of imprisonment. His hands are calloused from scribe work but now bear rope burns from restraints. His posture remains upright despite exhaustion.
Executioner
secondary

A middle-aged man with a stern, clean-shaven face, deep-set eyes, and a prominent nose. His hands are well-manicured, and his fingernails are clean, indicating his high status.
Weeping Woman
background
A middle-aged woman with a careworn face, her cheeks streaked with silent tears. Her hands are rough from labor, and her posture is slightly hunched, as if burdened by sorrow. Her dark hair is mostly covered by a simple linen coif, with a few strands escaping to frame her face.
Town Guard

A broad-shouldered man in his late 30s with a weathered face marked by a jagged scar across his left cheek. His thick beard is streaked with grey, and his hands are calloused from years of handling weapons. His eyes are sharp and vigilant, scanning the crowd for any signs of disturbance.
