Characters
Eleazar ben Ya'ir
primary
A middle-aged Jewish rebel leader with a weathered face, deep-set eyes that burn with conviction, and a short, well-groomed beard streaked with gray. His muscular frame bears scars from previous battles, and his hands are calloused from years of wielding weapons. His posture is upright, exuding authority and determination.
Rebel Elder
secondary
A grizzled Sicarii fighter in his late 50s with a wiry frame toughened by decades in the desert. His deeply lined face bears scars from old battles, and his gray-streaked beard is matted with dust. Sunken, piercing eyes that have witnessed too much death.
Young Warrior
secondary
A lean but muscular young man in his early twenties, with sun-browned skin from years in the Judean desert. His dark curly hair is matted with sweat and dust, and his beard is still patchy with youth. His hands, gripping his sword, bear fresh callouses from recent battles. Deep shadows under his eyes speak of sleepless nights during the siege.
Mother with Child
background
A woman in her late twenties with a thin, weary frame, her dark hair partially covered by a simple headscarf. Her sunken eyes and hollow cheeks show the toll of prolonged hunger and fear. She clutches a toddler close to her chest, the child's face buried in her shoulder.
Dialog
Eleazar ben Ya'ir

Rebel Elder
(clearing throat) Bar nash... even Abraham stayed his knife when the Lord tested him. Is this truly His will?
Young Warrior
I... I can still feel the sword's weight, uncle. How do we- (voice cracks) how do we turn them on our own?
Eleazar ben Ya'ir
As the Maccabees purified the Temple with steel, so shall we purify our people's honor. Ten men stand ready - let them be our merciful executioners when the deed is done.
Rebel Elder
(long pause, then gruff whisper) So be it. My blade is sharp enough for Miriam and the little ones. May the Lord judge us kindly.
Young Warrior
The stars... they're so bright tonight. Like the lamps in Mother's house before- (abruptly stands) Give me the lot, Eleazar. I'll cast it with the others.
