Viking Raid on Armagh

Viking raiders storm Armagh Abbey at dawn, breaking through its defenses as monks and villagers desperately try to protect sacred relics and manuscripts. The Abbot confronts the Viking leader in a ten

Setting

Armagh Abbey at dawn, surrounded by wooden and stone structures typical of early medieval Irish monastic settlements. The abbey's main church stands prominently, with its high wooden roof and carved stone crosses. The surrounding monastic buildings include scriptoriums, dormitories, and storehouses, all enclosed within a rough stone wall. Outside the walls, Viking longships are beached on the nearby riverbank, their dragon-headed prows looming ominously.

Characters

Abbot
primary
An elderly man in his late 60s with a gaunt frame, hunched shoulders from years of study, and deeply lined skin that speaks of both wisdom and hardship. His thin white hair forms a monk's tonsure, and his pale blue eyes burn with fervor beneath bushy white eyebrows. His hands, though trembling slightly with age, grip his crozier with surprising strength.
Viking Leader
primary
A towering, broad-shouldered Norse chieftain in his late 30s, with sun-weathered skin and a thick, braided red beard streaked with blonde. His face bears an old scar running from left temple to jawline. Piercing blue eyes that seem to glow with battle-lust under bushy eyebrows. Muscular arms covered in ritual tattoos of serpentine patterns.
Monk Scribe
secondary
A young man in his early twenties with a slender, slightly hunched build from hours spent bent over manuscripts. His pale complexion contrasts with dark circles under wide, anxious eyes. His tonsure is freshly shaved, and his hands bear ink stains between the fingers.
Viking Warrior
secondary
A burly Norseman in his late 20s, standing a head taller than most monks. His face bears old battle scars across a broken nose, with wild blonde hair matted with sweat and blood. His arms are thick with muscle from years of rowing and fighting, covered in faded blue tattoo markings of Norse knots.
Local Farmer
background
A middle-aged Irish farmer with a wiry build from years of labor, his sun-weathered face lined with premature wrinkles. His unkempt brown hair is streaked with gray, and a short, rough beard covers his jaw. His hands are calloused and dirt-stained, clutching at his tunic as he flees.

Dialog

Abbot By the holy relics of Saint Patrick, I forbid you this sacrilege! The wrath of Christ and his saints shall fall upon you thrice-fold!
Viking Leader Hah! Your White Christ's wrath is weaker than an old man's piss! Olaf takes what he wants - your gold, your books, even your god's house if it pleases him!
Viking Warrior Chief! The scriptorium burns! Should we... Thor's balls! Silver candlesticks!
Abbot Flee, Brother Dáire! Take the Gospels to the crypt! May Brigid's cloak hide you!
Viking Leader After him, you dogs! No book escapes Olaf's fire! The rest - tear this place stone from stone until we find their hoard!
Abbot Miserere nobis... You'll drown in the wound-sea you've made this day, heathen.
Viking Warrior Gull! Gull under the altar stones!
