Setting

A shallow but fast-moving section of the Saleph River, bordered by rocky outcrops and sparse vegetation. The riverbank is uneven, with patches of gravel and coarse sand. Nearby, the remnants of a Crusader camp can be seen—tents in disarray, hastily abandoned equipment, and the faint glow of dying campfires.

Characters

Frederick Barbarossa
primary
A tall, broad-shouldered man in his late 60s with a commanding presence, now lifeless. His once fiery red beard (from which he earned the nickname 'Barbarossa') is now waterlogged and tangled. His face bears the weathered lines of decades of campaigning, with a strong jawline and deep-set eyes that once held imperial authority.
Duke of Swabia
primary
A young man in his early twenties, tall and lean with the bearing of nobility. His fair hair is tousled from exertion, and his blue eyes are wide with shock. His face is flushed with emotion, and his jaw is clenched tightly.
Knight Commander
secondary
A seasoned warrior in his late forties, with a broad, muscular frame honed by decades of combat. His face is weathered, marked by a deep scar running from his left temple to his jawline. His steel-gray hair is cropped short, and his piercing blue eyes convey both authority and weariness.
Squire
secondary
A young male attendant, approximately 16 years old, with a slender build and tousled brown hair. His face is pale with shock, and his wide, hazel eyes dart nervously between the river and his superiors. His hands tremble slightly as he clutches a knight's discarded gauntlet.
Crusader Soldier
background
A rugged foot soldier in his late twenties, with a wiry but muscular build from years of campaigning. His face is weathered by sun and wind, with a short, unkempt beard and deep-set eyes. His hands are calloused from wielding weapons and labor.
