Battle of Vitkov Hill
Jan Žižka and his Hussite defenders prepare to repel a Crusader assault on Vitkov Hill, using the terrain and makeshift fortifications to their advantage.
Setting
Vitkov Hill, a steep and rocky slope outside Prague, with a makeshift wooden fortification at its summit. The hill is covered in dry summer grass and scattered with boulders, providing natural defensive positions. Below, the crusader forces are massing for an assault.
Characters
Jan Žižka
primary
A formidable middle-aged man with a muscular build, standing tall despite his years of battle. His most striking feature is the missing left eye, covered by a simple leather patch. His remaining right eye is sharp and piercing, constantly scanning the battlefield. His face is weathered and scarred, with a thick, graying beard that covers a strong jawline. His hair, also graying, is cropped short in a practical military style.
Hussite Captain
secondary
A grizzled warrior in his late 30s, with a stocky but muscular build from years of campaigning. His face is weathered, with deep lines around his eyes and a prematurely gray-streaked beard. A jagged scar runs from his left temple to his jawline, evidence of past battles. His hands are calloused and bear the marks of swordplay.
Peasant Archer
secondary
A young man in his early 20s with a wiry build, sunburnt skin, and calloused hands from farm labor. His light brown hair is cropped short under a simple cloth cap, and he has a fresh scar across his right cheekbone from recent skirmishes.
Flag Bearer
background
A wiry youth of about 16 years, with sunburned cheeks and a determined set to his jaw. His dark hair is matted with sweat beneath a simple linen cap, and his arms tremble slightly from the effort of holding the heavy banner against the wind.
Dialog
Jan Žižka
Steady now, brothers! Let their fear climb this hill before them—like cowards to the slaughter.
Hussite Captain
Archers to the west flank! They’ll try for the gully—fill it with iron before they reach the rocks.
Peasant Archer
By the chalice... there’s more of them than crows in a harvest field.
Jan Žižka
Aye, and like crows they’ll feast—on their own dead. Remember: God fights with the just, not the many.
Hussite Captain
Spears front! If they break through, make every thrust count—no second chances in this dance.
Peasant Archer
Good sir... my bowstring’s frayed. Could I—
Hussite Captain
Use your sling then, boy! Stones won’t fail you if your arm doesn’t.
