SELECTED
Bishop Wilfrid
primary
An elderly Northumbrian prelate of about 75 years. His skin is like thin, translucent parchment stretched over a sharp, aristocratic bone structure. He has a long, wispy white beard that has been neatly combed, and his deep-set eyes, though clouded by age and impending death, still retain a spark of the fierce, Roman-aligned intellect that defined his career.
Acca
primary
A man in his late 40s with a lean, ascetic build and a scholarly disposition. He has a narrow face, a straight nose, and deep-set, intelligent eyes that are currently rimmed with red from weeping. His hair is dark but thinning at the crown, showing the early stages of a clerical tonsure, and he wears a short-trimmed, neat beard.
Benedictine Monk
secondary
A man of humble bearing with a weathered, sun-browned complexion from years of labor and prayer. He has a tonsured head with a ring of thinning, mousy hair and a short, unkempt beard. His eyes are red-rimmed and swollen from silent weeping, and his features are deeply lined with the exhaustion of a multi-day vigil.
Benedictine Monk 2
secondary
A man of sturdy build with hands calloused from manual labor and the tending of the abbey's gardens. His head features a traditional Roman tonsure, the crown shaved smooth leaving a ring of dark, thinning hair. His features are weathered by the damp English climate, with a wide nose and a thick brow.
Dialog
Bishop Wilfrid
The long journey of our pilgrimage draweth to its close; we perceive the shadows of the Eternal City beckoning through the dimming light of this world.
Acca
My Lord Father, the foundation you have hewn from the rough stone of this land is deep and steadfast; we shall not let the mortar crumble.
Bishop Wilfrid
See that the fourfold portion of our gold be distributed with equity: one for the churches of Rome, one for the poor of our people, and the remainder for the brethren who followed us into exile.
Acca
Your commands are etched upon my heart, even as the chants of the Roman rite are written in our codices.
Bishop Wilfrid
To thee, Acca, we bequeath the governance of the flock at Hexham; may the Holy Spirit provide the plumb-line for thy rectitude.
Acca
I am but a small stone in the great arch you have raised, yet I shall stand firm for the honor of St. Peter.
Bishop Wilfrid
It is finished. Into Thy hands, O Lord, we commend our spirit; let the Roman custom prevail until the end of days.
